The South Forsyth War Eagles Varsity held tough until late against Lambert HS on Monday, but Lambert HS scored six runs late for a 14-5 victory at South Forsyth HS.
Cole Varner got it done on the rubber on the way to a win. He allowed two runs over five innings. He struck out six, walked none and surrendered five hits.
Lambert HS easily handled the South Forsyth War Eagles Varsity pitching as six hitters combined for 10 hits, 10 RBIs and 10 runs scored.
Alec Kliphouse was the game's losing pitcher. He allowed eight runs in 5 1/3 innings, walked two and struck out three.
After pushing across two runs in the bottom of the fifth, the South Forsyth War Eagles Varsity faced just a 4-2 deficit. An error and an RBI single by Alex Andronica sparked the South Forsyth War Eagles Varsity's rally. Landon Sims flew out to end the South Forsyth War Eagles Varsity threat.
Lambert HS added four more runs in the top of the sixth. A clutch bases loaded walk scored Griffin Jarrett to open the scoring in the frame. That was followed up by Josh McAllister's single, scoring Daniel Mickelson.
After pushing across three runs in the bottom of the seventh, the South Forsyth War Eagles Varsity faced just a 14-5 deficit. An RBI double by Brett Graczyk, a passed ball, and an RBI single by Max Schmal gave the South Forsyth War Eagles Varsity life. The game went final when Kliphouse struck out.
